Before I got married, I thought that even if my future husband had siblings who had children, I’d still miss out on feeling like an aunt. Maybe I was more concerned with being related by blood and I was probably emotional about the fact that I’m an only child. But that changed when she was born. She is the apple of my eye and I absolutely adore her. When we were in California, all I wanted was to be near her. I love that she calls me auntie and calls her uncle Jimmy “JeeBee”. I love that she recognizes me through Skype and wants to show off when she knows I’m watching. Not being able to see her every day makes my heart ache. But, I’m an auntie in every way. And it’s one of the best, rewarding, fulfilling feelings in the world.
